Road to Recovery

[Hitoban no Fokkusu]

It was true, there were a few good points to Raist's curse, but there were more bad. He was always bed-ridden, and he wasn't able to behave normally. He might never have the strength to be an Alpha, and he might die before he has the chance to have pups. There were so many things that could go wrong, it frightened Maname to the core. Good thing I'm such an excellent healer, she thought. I will find a cure for these curses. I will fix Raist, and Rin, and whoever else is effected by these horrible curses. Her resolve was strong, but it would take some serious research and tough, strenuous efforts on her part. She would do all she could to get rid of the curses, even if it drove her to inanity, or worse, death.

Still, it was better not to dwell on such matters. She listened to the comforting sound of Raist's voice as he ranted on, and when he stopped, she smiled. "I don't mind your so-called "ranting." You have every right to speak your mind, and I love listening to your voice."

Raist chuckled and nuzzled Manames' cheek again, "I know, but ranting doesn't change much, though it is a slight stress reliever at times I guess..." He shrugged slightly, "oh well..." Raist then fell silent again and in that silence his stomach desided to finally realize it was starving and gave a very soft growl, Raist as usual ignored it for he knew he wouldn't eat much anyways, then again the last time he remembered eating was back before Gibari had attempted to attack Dawn and the pups while they were fishing...he wasn't even sure how long ago that was. He pushed the thoughts out of his head again.

Maname smiled as she was nuzzled, and laid her head against Raist. His rumbling voice amplified in her already-sensitive ears, and she was lulled into a sleep-like state. She was totally blissed out when she heard a loud gurgling. She realized it was his stomach. Apparently, he chose to ignore it. But Maname wasn't having any of that. Of course she wouldn't ignore it. She rolled onto her stomach and looked at him chastisingly. "I knew it-you are hungry. How long has it been since you've eaten? Too long, I can tell. I'll go and fetch some food. I'm a mite hungry too, so it's no trouble." Of course this last part was a lie, but she knew if he thought she was going out of her way, he wouldn't be happy about it. If he thought she was hungry as well, it might put his mind at ease. Maname stood and reluctantly left Raist in his room, going up the hidden tunnel to the alpha's den. Dawn and the pups were gone-probably hunting or something-so she just went straight for the meat room. She got a nice big hunk and dragged it back to Raist's room. She sat down across from him over the meat with a smile.

"Dig in."

Raist blinked and then shook his head and chuckled as she left the room his stomach growled again while she was gone. He heard her returning before he saw her and when he saw the hunk of meat she was literally dragging behind her his eyes widened ever so slightly. He chuckled, "Thanks Maname, but even though the last time I have eaten anything was a little before Gibari attacked Dawn and the rest of us...I won't be able to eat anywhere near even half of that...Heck I can barely eat a whole hare..." He stood and stretched again and then bent his head down and started to tear small chunks of meat off.

Maname's eyes widened when he said how long it had been since he'd eaten, but she didn't comment. Instead, she just smiled. "Well we'll just keep it around until we finish it." She smiled again and started nibbling on it herself. She wasn't hungry, but she didn't want him to feel bad.

Raist ate as much as he could, which was more than he usually could eat but still not enough to make that big of a dent in the chunk of meat. Guess not eating for awhile would make anyone eat more than usual. He licked his maw clean and padded a bit away from the hunk of meat and laid back down and waited for Maname to get done eating. "Yeah, guess we will just have to keep it around then.." He fell silent after that and let his thoughts wander, he would really love to go outside and get some fresh air and move around a bit, walk around the territory a bit or something, he didn't know how much longer he could stay put in one place before he went a bit stir crazy.

Once she had eaten all she could, and seen that Raist had done the same, she dragged the rest of the meat into the storage room and returned to lie next to Raist. She had become more comfortable with him in just a few hours, and she smiled at his comforting presence. She was content just to lie there for a while, but she knew he would have been getting antsy to get out, or at least see another wolf. She was reluctant, however, to take him outside yet. He really should wait until he got over his fit, and she wasn't about to let him out until he was better, even if he really wanted to. It was too risky; they were both tired and she wasn't sure she could haul him back in here by herself if something were to happen.

Raist had planned on asking Maname if they could head outside and take a walk but when he opened his mouth to speak all that came out was a yawn, he chuckled slightly. Guess having a full belly was enough to make anyone drowsy. When Maname laid next to him he smiled and nuzzled her neck and then all the drowsyness from a full belly and him still recovering from his fit caught up to him and he fell asleep with his head resting on Manames shoulder within a span of a few seconds without really meaning too.

Maname felt a slight flush creep into her features when Raist laid his head on her shoulder, but she nuzzled him back. But lo and behold, she was right. Within a few seconds, he was sound asleep. He was definitely not rested enough to go outside. She maneuvered herself so she was comfortable, his head still on her neck, and closed her eyes. She wasn't tired, really, but she was happy resting in his presence. He smelled nice, and, though she hadn't meant to, she too fell asleep within a few minutes. The atmosphere and the food were just enough to send her into a cat nap.

Raist slept for several more hours before awakening again, he didn't move cause he didn't wish to wake Maname. He felt kinda bad for just crashing out on her, she could have just moved him, he wasn't a light sleeper most of the time. He listened to his surrounding, still no one here that he could hear. Oh well he was content to lay here.
