Ah... yeah, there really are no words to describe the sheer majesty of a full moon. Nor can I adequately convey my euphoria when staring straight into it. It's like the rest of the world disappears, and it's just me and the moon. Whenever the moon is out, I can find it instantly, and can't for the life of me take my eyes off of it, unless for some need. I don't howl at the moon... I howl at other animals. ^^ I like to hear them talk back... I do it all the time, so it's no big. I've heard dogs, coyotes, and actual wolves respond to me before, as well as a screeching owl. Believe it or not, I can tell a wolf howl from the others, it sounds quite different. But tonight, I howled at the moon for the very first time. It felt really odd, not closing my eyes or anything... just staring into the moon and howling, but it was almost like something wanted me to... *sigh* I'm way too weird... but I couldn't help it. ^^

Dont feel like its strange, I do it all the time. Sure people come out and look at me and I get the neighborhood dogs barking at me.

Well, I really have no problem howling at other animals to see what's out there, it was just the moon... It was like it asked me to, and was like "@_@ ok..."

cool, me need to try! ive tried howling at other canines and have got some replies...only have a faint idea what they mean, i have a book on different meanings of howls and stuff and put it on my site, though i feel crazy trying to get my dog to howl, i howled at him and he just give me a confused look then licked me. I need to try the moon, must feel different lmao.

My guess is your dog either didn't care about the howl, or took it to mean something different. I wouldn't howl directly at things, y'know? I mean, if it can see you, howling at it may not be such a good idea, especially if you're not sure what you're saying. It's up to you, really, just be careful.
Anyway, most of the howls I get are "proof of existence" sorts of things, where the other wolves, or coyotes, or even dogs just want to let me know they're there. Occasionally I get a "territorial" howl or bark, but that's only if I'm too close to another creature's territory. The one I like best is the "chorus", which doesn't happen often, but it's easily the most beautiful sound on earth. I have speculated that the reason for a chorus is after a hunt, or maybe a death in the pack... maybe it's just for fun, idk. I'll have to do some research.

ive researched it a lot and have a faint idea what im saying and sometimes it works, most of the time my dog just wags his tail, gives me a confused look and licks me. my doggie is no call of the wild XD

Haha, my dogs ignore me when I howl, just sorta, "Meh, so he's howling, so what?"
The neighbors' dogs go crazy, though... XD

When I go outside to Howl, I call Sheeta and Reyana and they come and howl with me. You don't even know the feeling of howling to the heavens with two wolves by your side. It's the only time I feel...at home really. I feel more at home than with any other situation or place. Then afterwards we wrestle or cuddle up. It's so amazing...I am so blessed...^^
