I'm not a fan, I'm an ULTRA FAN GIRL! I'd have to say, I love the Gingas more than any other anime. GNG was the first dog anime I saw, and I love the series now. I wish it'd come out in American, though..
[fan girl rant] GDW sort of sucked, though. The anatomy of the dogs was off (by a lot too!), but it had a good story. But I hated how all the original characters were killed off... But anyway, this anime has its good show of violence (though GNG had WAY more) and the characters grow on 'ya.
If you're looking for a good canine anime to watch, Ginga Densetsu Weed is the best, because it's the only anime where you'll see blue Akitas (that are supposed to be silver.. "GIN"= "SILVER" not "GIN"="BLUE".), psycho Harlequin Great Danes that think they can kill off every human, big butted dogs (Moss and Toube! xD), spotted Shikoku dogs with mohawks, a ninja Kinshu dog, and a dog using wolf moves to stop the big bad guy. Of course I know the opening theme. "Ginga Densetsu Weed" is addicting, but not as much as GNG's opening. I like how GDW and GNG are both about wild dogs (and in the GNG manga, wolves!) and their relationships to the owners that left them and abused them.

I know this is kind of an old thread, but I've recently finished both Ginga Nagareboshi Gin and Ginga Densetsu Weed, and I've got to disagree with Mayoi on this one. The dogs aren't all abused, that's mostly just the bad guys from GDW, like Hougen and Kaibutsu, and the only thing severely wonky with the anatomy that I can tell is the markings on most of the dogs, and a few of the characters are difficult to figure breed out on (Hiro, Jerome, and Tesshin, for starters). Of course, you're entitled to your opinion on which you like better, I am just openly opposed to fangirl ranting, because in most cases, it skews the facts slightly because of things the fangirl (or boy) projects onto the anime (i.e. the abused dog comment). Most of the dogs had a perfectly healthy relationship with their masters in GNG (except for Takeda, I don't think anyone could have a good relationship with him), and they didn't speak much on that subject in GDW, 'cause it was only an issue for the bad guys.
Okay, so now I've said the same thing twice, and am feeling rather silly, but my inner anime policeman (or nazzi, or whatever you want to call it) can calm down now. I'm certain that I too, mess up facts and such (your free to check my new anime list if you wanna get me back or whatever), and I don't mind fangirls, it's just the UBER FANGIRL RANTING that tweaks me. Oh, and really, only John died from the old group. I don't really remember what happened to Chutora, but he didn't die in the series.
I knew I shouldn't have clicked... I was like, "Ah, the Ginga series! Yay!" so I clickied... oh well.

WOO! GNG and GDW ARE SERIOUSLY AWESOME! on GNG my fav characters have to be Riki and Gin and John, on GDW has to be Weed, Jerome, Tesshin and rocket! ME UBER FAN!...wanna know why? because...GNG AND GDW ARE AWESOME!

Hehe. My fave's have got to be Akame, John, Kurotora, Akatora, Chutora, and Benizakura from GNG.
I like Akame (he will always rock), Gin (didn't like him as much in GNG for some reason), Tesshin, Jerome, Ken, Kagetora, Hiro, Weed, and Kyoushiro in GDW.

I really don't know why I like Benizakura better than some of the main characters, but I was very impressed by him right from the start. Akame is just way cool, kinda like a dog-Kakashi-sensei, but more... idk, noble, or something...
