Well, I've been through quite a few series, and need something new to watch in my spare time. I think I'll rank what I've watched so far and do a little review just to kill time.
1. Must see. No seriously, stop reading and go watch it right now if you haven't already, or I'll sick Ball-snatcher Hiro on you.
Ginga Densetsu Weed
Now Weed is probably my favorite anime so far. The character development is a whole lot better than GNG, and it just seems to be an all around better quality than its predecessor. Plus, while I still don't like the relationship Weed and Gin have at the end, I prefer the ending to GDW over GNG. I saw this one first, and it has good subs. I like the art style and characters a lot, even Hiro... though he scares me a little. lol
Full Metal Alchemist
Some people argue that FMA is not alchemy, it's magic. I just don't care, 'cause whatever you want to call it, it's pretty cool. All that aside, this is a pretty phenomenal anime, and the characters are just... well idk, I started half-way through the series, so I got to see Hughes, like, twice, and was still incredibly sad when he died, so it was pretty much love-at-first-sight on this one. The flow is good, and I found myself watching the whole series in two or three days, if you count the movie, then going back and watching the first episodes ('cause I only own volumes 7-end). If you have tried this before and didn't love it, then you haven't gotten far enough. You really have to watch the episodes in sequence, and get to about volume, oh... probably 8 or 9 before you'd enjoy it, I have a friend like that, so no worries.
2. Amazing.
3. Most excellent.
Wolf's Rain
An awesome anime, I love it so much, the ending is a little bit too Buddhist for me, but the music, characters, and everything is just so amazing. It is a little depressing at times, and I found myself having to force my way through several episodes in the middle, but it had a few twists I didn't expect, and was altogether rewarding. The tone kinda reminds me of "Heroes".
4. Some witty caption meaning I like it well enough, and would watch it again in my spare time, but not at the top of my priority list.
Fafner: Dead Aggressor
This one is a little depressing, actually... let me lay it out for you:
Happy> Angst> Battle> More Angst> Death> Angst> Battle> Attempt at happiness> Happiness interrupted by more death and angst> Resolution> Battle> Angst> Kidnap> Final boss> Contentment, but still totally scarred for life. This seems to be the flow of the series. It's very much a "What is the meaning of life?" series, and I like those, plus, it's relatively short. If you don't want to go through the extra angst, just watch until about ep 7-10. Somewhere in there, I believe, the first story arc ends, and some people have actually mistaken that for the end of the series. This one does take fortitude, but I think I liked the ending; one of those, open-ended, "anything is possible now that we've fought our asses off and over half our pilots have died" endings. Also, it's a pretty cool giant robot/alien invader anime.
5. So-so. Meaning good, but not great.
Ginga Nagareboshi Gin
I didn't like this one as well as Weed, but that's in part due to the horrible subs they have on YouTube after episode, like, 10 or something. I actually watched Weed first, but that really didn't make me like this one any more. Don't get me wrong, I would totally recommend this to people if they need a good anime, it's just not my fav. All in all, the characters were good, but seemed to have a development slope like driving up a brick wall. Granted, that we're really only following Gin, and the other dogs are basically how they are already, but relationships between characters seem to form out of thin air, just because Gin stares at 'em funny. Plus it's like, "How the hell did he become a ninja in like, half an episode?" Daisuke and Gin are basically the best developed and most provoking characters in the series, followed by John, Ben, Moss, and the Kai Ken dogs. For some reason, I really didn't care what happened to Riki and the rest of them.
6. I really have nothing to say about these other than they're better than 7, but not as good as 5.
7. Not worth my time.
8. This wasn't quite a pile of steaming fecal matter, but close.
9. I like it slightly more than jamming red-hot pokers in my eyes.
10. I'd rather chew glass, slide down a banister of razor-blades, and land in a pool of alcohol than watch this again.
Any suggestions on a new one for me to watch?
