Dawn padded through the darkening forest, alone and a little nervous. What if it was some kind of trap? What if something happened to her, or worse, her pups? What if Maname was lying about the flower? No...she didn't believe that. She knew that everything would be all right. Especially when she saw a light.
It was bright, yet soft all at once. It was warm and welcoming, like the Northern Lights. It was blue, the soft almost whiteness of it dancing across the ground. She walked toward it, almost enticed by it. She rounded the trees and was almost blinded by the light. She had to squint to make out the shape of something in the light-the source of it. It was a wolf, with wings outstretched. They twitched and folded, and the light dimmed. She could make out features now.
The wolf himself was blueish white, and he had three tails. He looked kind of familiar, like she'd seen him somewhere before. His eyes were yellow, like a normal wolf's, but his wings-oh his strange and wonderful wings-were a kind of teal. The most striking thing of all was his smile. Such benevolence occupied that smile. She couldn't help but smile back as she placed the flower on the ground.
"Hello, Dawn." His words sang to her, lulled her in a happy sort of way. She didn't take notice of the fact that he'd already known her name. He was, after all, an angel.
"Let me tell you the gift you have been given. I am Phoebus. I am Ryuunosuke's angel-that is why you think you have seen me before; you have seen me in Ryuu. I am not here to harm you, but to help you. You see, I have seen in your womb, and I know that one of your pups is destined to be stillborn. She resembles your mate much. However, with the gift you've been given, you can save her. But, you must follow my directions exactly."
Dawns heart lifted and fell at every good and bad news. One of her pups was to be born dead...but she looked like Kage. She could be saved if she did what she was told. Dawn nodded her head fervently, hope rising in her throat in the form of a whine.
"Very well then. Since there is one petal missing, something will still be wrong with her. No matter what it is, are you prepared to complete this?"
Dawn nodded her head, giving no second thought to what might be wrong with her.
First, you must name her as I tell you. You may not give her another name. She is the chosen one, and therefore must have the name of such. Her name is to be Kazuko. Do you wish to continue?"
Dawn nodded her head, mulling over the name. She liked the ring of it, even if it wasn't the name she picked.
"Very well then. She is to be protected at all times, no matter what. When she is of age, she shall not be allowed to leave your pack. When the time is come, I will come to fetch her. You must let her go without worry."
Dawn nodded her head to each, but found herself worried at the last. Where would you take her?
"That I cannot tell you. I can only say that she shall not be harmed."
Dawn hesitantly nodded her head. Anything to save her baby.
"That is all I would have you do. I shall not tell you what grievance has befallen your daughter on behalf of your carelessness with the rabbit. You shall know when she arrives."
Dawn nodded, and Phoebus smiled. She smiled in return as he spread his wings, blinding her again.
"Then I shall see you again, Dawn. Take care."
Thank you, Dawn whispered. With a great whoosh, Phoebus ascended into the sky and disappeared. Dawn reached down to take the flower, only to find it gone. She smiled and turned to walk home.
